The SSPI organizes indicators into categories, each of measures the performance of a package of related policies in a specific sector. Categories are grouped into pillars corresponding to the three core tasks of government in the twenty-first century.

SSPI Core 49 Countries
The SSPI 49 countries are those which were included in our original 2018 index. These countries comprise the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCED), the G20, plus several other countries classified as 'High-income' by the World Bank. Together, the SSPI49 account for 90% of world GDP and about two-thirds of the world's population.
SSPI Extended Countries
The SSPI Extended countries comprise the countries beyond the original 49 for which the policy data availability, reliability, and quality permit the SSPI to be computed. These include many developing economies, especially in the Global South.
